Getting the file through the software that reads it first.
What is an ATS, and why does it matter?
An applicant tracking system is the software that reads applications before a recruiter does. It converts your file to plain text, and whatever it cannot read simply is not there.
Two-column layouts, sidebars, tables and text inside images are the usual casualties: the columns interleave, and a skills sidebar can come out mixed into the middle of a job description.
Are the templates ATS-safe?
All three are single-column and parse cleanly: Modern with accent rules, Classic centred and traditional, and Compact for fitting more on the page.
Switching between them never changes your content, only how it is set.
What can I change about the look?
From the editor toolbar: the template, an accent colour, the typeface, text size, line height, page size between A4 and Letter, and whether the photo shows.
Should I include a photo?
It depends where you are applying. Photos are normal on resumes in much of Europe and expected in some markets, while in the US, UK, Canada and Australia they are usually left off and can complicate a review.
The toggle is in the toolbar, so you can export one of each.
How do I download the PDF?
The Download PDF button in the editor header. The file is rendered from the same page you are looking at, so what you see is what is sent.
Free accounts include three downloads. Pro is unlimited.
